The Gemini app is an AI assistant. If you opt in to the Gemini app, it will replace your Google Assistant as the primary assistant on the phone. Some Google Assistant voice features aren't available through the Gemini app yet. You can switch back to Google Assistant in settings.
The Gemini app is available only on Android phones with 2 GB of RAM or more, running Android 10 and up.
This official app is free of charge. Gemini gives you direct access to Google’s best family of AI models on your phone so you can:
- Get help with writing, brainstorming, learning, and more
- Summarise and find quick info from Gmail or Google Drive
- Use text, voice, photos and your camera to get help in new ways
- Say “Hey Google” to ask Gemini for help with what’s on your phone screen
- Make plans with Google Maps and Google Flights

I love Gemini, but in the android app are some bugs. When the "research" mode was used once in a chat it cannot de-selected afterwards (in the browser it works). When opening old chats they start at the top so I have to scroll all the way down, which is very annoying for long chats. "Research" mode also often gets stuck in the app (no issues in the browser).

The new models including reasoning are awesome, they will help with a lot of research. Image generation is a fun way to express creativity. I deduct one star for being unable to select text from answers as I would from e.g. a website, the 'select text' feature is good for copying the entire answer, but most of the time I just want to quickly copy parts. Deep research is an excellent functionality. However, in the app, when it goes out of focus, you lose the position in the text you last read.

They fixed the play button. Awesome. When responding with audio, it cuts off if the phone goes to sleep/locks. This is EXTREMELY annoying. especially while driving. That's my biggest complaint. Another certain AI app continues playing the audio after the phone goes to sleep. Very good app and phone assistant but I keep hearing they want to put ads in Gemini. if they do that, I'm out.
