Senior Software Engineer, Android, Search Discover

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience with Android mobile app development (Kotlin, Java).
  • 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with large scale application design and architecture.
  • 3 years of experience with Android application development.
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role of overseeing projects.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • 5 years of experience with data structures/algorithms.
  • 1 year of experience in a technical leadership role.
  • Experience leading project teams and setting technical direction and delivering mobile applications using native Android or Mobile Web technologies.
  • Experience in building or re-architecting products from scratch, and large-scale mobile applications and complex architectures.
  • Understanding of Android performance profiling tools and techniques, and optimizing mobile app performance and resolving complex reliability issues.

Discover is on a mission to empower users to explore their passions by curating perspectives and information. This role involves owning a key part of the user experience: the Discover Client on Android.

In this role, you will be responsible for executing strategic initiatives on the Android client side to deliver user experience. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams across India and the US to ensure the success of this team and its charter. With your technical expertise, you will manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables, ensuring they align with Discover Android's mission and goals.In Google Search, we're reimagining what it means to search for information – any way and anywhere. Responsibilities

  • Deliver initiatives for Discover on Android client infrastructure that supports our strategic initiatives. Lead, mentor, and grow a team to develop client infrastructure, focusing on rendering, reliability, latency, and logging.
  • Manage individual project priorities, deadlines and deliverables. Design and implement salable and robust applications. Analyze the development cycle, identify areas for improving development productivity, formulate proposals, and drive execution.
  • Review code developed by other engineers and provide feedback (on e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
  • Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback.
  • Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality. Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders.
