Cellular Wireless Systems Engineer

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience with 3GPP protocols, LTE, and 5G
  • Experience with scripting languages (i.e. Python).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience with designing and analyzing practical wireless systems to optimize power consumption and performance (e.g., latency, throughput, coverage) tradeoffs.
  • Experience in driving cross-functional teams (e.g., software, integration, testing) on the implementation and delivery of new mobile features.
  • Understanding of wireless communication theory, data communication networks, queuing theory, scheduling/prioritization, QoS.
  • Ability to gain insights from KPI (Key Performance Indicators) and metrics from devices.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $132,000-$189,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Contribute to improving Pixel’s cellular modem power, performance, cognizant of trade-offs between power consumption, coverage, throughput, latency, and thermal performance.
  • Investigate performance trends by gaining insights into modem KPIs and metrics, applying data analytics or AI/ML approaches with an understanding of overall end-to-end systems operation involving the networks.
  • Address systems-level issues by conducting log analysis, driving issue resolution, and identifying the opportunities for improvements on the UE or network.
  • Propose and design new enhancements to optimize power and performance, define systems requirements, and collaborate with cross-functional teams (firmware/software, testing) on the implementation and product delivery.
  • Engage in discussion with external vendors to support new enhancement requirements, performance improvements and utilize, develop tools to automate and improve workflows for data analysis, issue triaging, and feature evaluation.
