Staff Network Engineer

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10 years of experience with network routing protocols, design and troubleshooting, with network equipment providers.
  • Experience with planning and designing networks (e.g., multiple sites, multiple products, etc.).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in telecommunications at a carrier-class, with experience in optical networks, Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM), Internet Protocol (IP), and data services.
  • Experience defining system or process requirements, building, integrating or delivering layer 1, layer 2 or layer 3 network systems.
  • Knowledge of Content Distribution Networks (CDN), IP transit/peering, dark fiber, colocation, optical transport, and cloud technologies and industry processes.
  • Excellent communication skills to represent projects from business, product, and technical viewpoints, influence decisions through detailed analysis, and solve ambiguous, cross-organizational problems.

As a Staff Network Engineer on the Device-to-Device (D2D) Architecture Design and Implementation Standards team, you will be a key individual contributor responsible for driving the definition and documentation of our network architecture and standards. You will address ambiguous issues, and will have a direct impact on teams across the organization.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $183,000-$271,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Lead the stipulation and documentation of architectural policy and standards across different layers of the OSI stack (e.g., L0-L1 mapping, L1-L3 striping rules, etc.). Create network and reference designs for new sites, upgrades, and capacity adds.
  • Drive hardware lifecycle policies to minimize Excess and Obsolescence (E and O) while balancing the introduction of new technology for scaling and cost reduction.
  • Develop methodologies for machine-readable policies that enable automated design verification and integration across the Global Graph Network (GGN) stack.
  • Prepare network designs for new and existing client site establishments, site relocations, network upgrades, and network expansions.
  • Work cross-functionally to provide business requirements to software and technology teams, ensuring new platforms are seamlessly integrated. Act as a "go-to" Network Engineer, driving data-driven improvements, standardization, and tool innovation to increase reliability and efficiency.
