Senior Director, Server Operations

Minimum qualifications:

  • 15 years of experience leading data center operations or leading functional processes including machine delivery, maintenance, network delivery, or maintenance and decommissioning.
  • 5 years of experience as a senior operations leader, managing systems, portfolios, and technical teams.
  • Experience managing mission critical logistics or supply chain systems and operations, teams, and processes.
  • Experience leading the multiple data centers, setting the strategy and delivering results and organization health or capability.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in networks and server hardware architecture, including deployment and maintenance.
  • Experience working with and leading internal and external teams and a variety of stakeholders, and in executing strategies to deliver exceptional solutions.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional business units to meet company goals and standards.
  • Excellent people management and leadership skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.

About the job

The Server Operations team is responsible for keeping the servers, networks, and logistics processes in Google’s global fleet of data centers running smoothly and efficiently. The team installs, commissions, operates, and maintains sophisticated systems equipment. We strive to be creative, team-oriented technicians and managers working on a daily basis to operate systems in Google’s data centers that are changing contemporary computing.

The Server Operations team monitors the physical and network infrastructure behind Google’s technology. As Senior Director, you will be responsible for all aspects of running the systems and related logistics processes for the data centers in the North America and South America (NASA) region. This includes oversight of the hardware components of Google’s compute, storage, and network infrastructure in the most efficient, secure, and scalable way possible.

In this role, you will be leading a team of Regional Directors who lead teams that deploy, operate, and support the network, compute, and storage infrastructure that keeps Google's products and services running to meet business demands. You will help oversee the operation and maintenance of systems and network components, and be accountable to keep these running in the data centers in your region. Working with partners, vendors, and teams at a global scale, you will participate and lead complex installations and activities focused on delivering site performance and high impact to our customers.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $336,000-$467,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of Regional Directors, senior individual contributors, and managers. Support staff that direct the operation and support of the site computing hardware, and networking operations of a data center region as well as the directly related logistics processes. 
  • Work with third-party logistics vendors and manage the related processes and outcomes.
  • Work with internal/external partners to implement short-term and long-term strategy for the data center region, including community affairs and relationships. Work with cross-functional teams to identify problems and create solutions that impact the region.
  • Propose innovation and strategies for cost effective and efficient data center logistics processes and server operations, focused on total cost of ownership.
  • Collaborate as a key member of the global leadership teams to drive operations toward company objectives.
