Electrical Engineer, Debug

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience with ECAD software (e.g., Altium, Eagle, KiCad) for circuit design and layout.
  • Experience analyzing circuit schematics to understand circuit operation and identify potential issues.
  • Experience analyzing PCB layouts to understand component placement, signal routing, and potential manufacturing challenges.
  • Experience writing and analyzing firmware for a variety of platforms.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or other advanced degree.
  • Experience working with testing and manufacturing.
  • Knowledge with writing firmware in C, C++ or other low level languages to understand firmware behavior.
  • Knowledge with one scripting language (i.e., Python).

About the job

Debug is a team of scientists and engineers dedicated to developing innovative solutions for mosquito-borne disease control. We are developing cutting-edge technology to raise and release sterile mosquitoes. As we prepare to scale up both our mosquito production and release capabilities, we are seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our team. This team based in San Francisco supports factories around the world that produce mosquitos.

In this role, you will be included in the design and development of electronic circuits and the development and implementation of firmware for embedded systems. You will analyze circuit schematics and layouts, writing firmware for circuit bring-up, and troubleshooting circuits in the field. You will collaborate with other engineers and team members as well as involve participation in the testing and manufacturing processes, and engaged involvement in the product life-cycle. You will provide ongoing support for deployed designs, troubleshooting field failures, and implementing design improvements.
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $102,000-$150,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Design, simulate, and develop electronic circuits for diverse applications, collaborating with mechanical and software engineers to integrate designs into complete systems.
  • Optimize circuit designs for performance, cost, and availability of components, ensuring suitability for low to mid-volume production.
  • Test and troubleshoot circuits, developing basic firmware and scripts for validation and enhanced functionality, and working closely with manufacturers to meet specifications.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration and optimal performance of electronic systems.
  • Provide ongoing support for deployed designs, including on-site troubleshooting and problem resolution.
