Manufacturing Engineer, Thermals

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of manufacturing engineering experience.
  • 3 years of experience in process or product development experience for thermal assemblies for electronics packaging systems.
  • Experience with Precision Machining, Brazing (e.g., furnace, vacuum), Soldering, Skiving, Zipper Fin stamping/Assy, Welding, Purge/Fill, or Sintering processes.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Industrial, Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with process and production line development for thermal assemblies.
  • Experience with solid modeling CAD (e.g. Creo) and thermal analysis (e.g. FloTHERM).
  • Understanding of passive and active heatsink thermal transport mechanisms.

Google's custom-designed equipment makes up one of the largest and most powerful computing infrastructures in the world. The Manufacturing Operations team is responsible for providing the manufacturing capability to deliver this state-of-the-art physical infrastructure. As a Manufacturing Engineer, you evaluate the product designs and create the processes, tools and procedures behind Google’s powerful search technology. When vendors build parts for our infrastructure, you’re right there alongside ensuring manufacturing processes are repeatable and controlled. You collaborate with Commodity Managers and Design Engineers to determine Google’s infrastructure needs and product specifications. Your work ensures the various pieces of Google’s infrastructure fit together perfectly and keep our systems humming along smoothly for a seamless user experience.

As a Thermal Manufacturing Engineer, you will provide manufacturing support and guidance for Google’s thermal solutions. You will identify and support high caliber thermal products and fulfillment chains.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $111,000-$163,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for developing manufacturing strategy, performing Design for Excellence (DFX), and driving implementation of manufacturing solutions for thermal assemblies through effective communication. 
  • Act as a technical representative for the Thermal Commodity team, providing manufacturing engineering expertise in supplier selection, qualification and management during product development and sustaining.
  • Research, develop, and qualify advanced thermal manufacturing solutions to ready the supply chain for future product requirements. 
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance manufacturing processes and product designs. Identify process, tooling, and automation opportunities to support high volume manufacturing at desired quality levels, reduced cost, and product repeatability.
  • Provide support for manufacturing and field quality issues, owning resolution of manufacturing/supplier issues and driving design issues with the Engineering team as appropriate.
