Hardware Design Engineer, Board and Systems

This is a specialized role which requires physical interaction with hardware equipment in a simulated data center environment, utilizing Google labs, power, and safety equipment.  Regular development and processing of engineering hardware must be performed on site.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience working in a hardware design technical environment, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.
  • Experienced in electronics principles, circuit design, PCB design, and layout.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • Experience with enterprise-class hardware systems design and data center engineering, server, storage, and networking products.
  • Experience with FPGA/CPLD design and interfacing with other disciplines, including software, signal integrity, thermal, and mechanical.
  • Experience collecting and organizing details to reproduce results and explain the outcomes.
  • Experience solving system issues, technical innovation, and driving technical roadmaps.

As a Hardware Design Engineer, you will design and build the systems that are the heart of a large and powerful computing infrastructure. You will see those systems from concept all the way through to high volume manufacturing. Your work has the potential to shape the machinery that goes into our data centers affecting millions of Google users.

As a part of the Board and System Design team, you will work on hardware systems projects to craft solutions for current and future data center deployments.You will work with product teams to ensure that customer goals are met with your systems, ASIC/FPGA, Software, and Verification teams to ensure proper verification of features in your systems, manufacturing teams to ensure that your designs are manufacturable and ready for volume production, and field teams to support systems that are deployed in the data center.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $126,000-$181,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Lead the hardware design on a system or sub-system of a data center hardware product.
  • Bring up systems and execute engineering validation in the lab.
  • Gather requirements, define high level architecture, and execute hardware design and product validation.
  • Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, product, and deployment teams to productize designs and field support.
  • Drive product from concept to production.
