Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 4 years of experience working in a consumer electronics technical environment, or 3 years of experience with an advanced degree.
- Experience in Python, MATLAB, or Perl, with the architectural experience in developing test suites and automating system and hardware validations.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
- Proficiency in Design of Experiments (DOE) derivation and statistical analysis to drive comprehensive validation plans and optimize hardware performance.
- Expertise in electrical bring-up and root cause failure analysis for high-volume consumer electronics, with a focus on resolving complex design flaws under timelines.
About the job
As a Hardware System Validation Engineer within the Google Pixel Watch organization, you are a primary architect of product excellence. You will lead the system validation strategy for next-generation Pixel Watches, driving the transition from prototyping to mass production. By prioritizing Critical User Journeys (CUJs), you will identify and mitigate risks during the early design stages to ensure peak system performance. Leveraging high-scale automation and custom test fixtures, you will transform complex datasets into actionable insights to overcome the industry’s most challenging system-level issues. As a natural cross-functional leader, you will synchronize with electrical, mechanical, thermal, software, and compliance teams, alongside CM/JDM partners, to deliver hardware.
The Platforms and Devices team encompasses Google's various computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications), as well as our first party devices and services that combine the best of Google AI, software, and hardware. Teams across this area research, design, and develop new technologies to make our user's interaction with computing faster and more seamless, building innovative experiences for our users around the world.
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $159,000-$231,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities
- Identify coverage gaps between Product Requirement Documents (PRDs) and validation plans, partnering with TPMs to ensure all critical development milestones were met on schedule.
- Define and execute comprehensive Critical User Journey (CUJ) test cases, engineering specialized automation and setups to accelerate validation.
- Own end-to-end stress testing (Run-in, Rack, OmniMotion), leading initial debugging and root-cause analysis to resolve design flaws early.
- Replicate complex failures to isolate specific signatures, collaborating across functional teams to mitigate system-level defects and enhance performance.
- Integrate AI technologies into the validation ecosystem for Google consumer products, significantly advancing test efficiency and overall engineering productivity.
