Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development.
  • 2 years of experience with iOS or Android application development.
  • 2 years of experience in a technical leadership role.
  • 2 years of experience in a people management or team leadership role.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • 3 years of experience working in a cross-functional organization.
  • Experience leading teams in image and video editing, media consumption, or creative applications.
  • Experience building successful consumer features and bringing them to market quickly - from prototyping to productionization.
  • Experience developing cross-functional and cross-team partnerships.
  • Experience in team growth with clear mentorship and coaching.

About the job

The Photos’ Create team’s goal is to empower our users with simple tools to express themselves creatively. We build the photo, video, and movie editors in Google Photos, and are embarking on new journeys to allow users to create and edit their content. The team focuses on bringing Google’s generative media models and computational photography technologies to Photos and delivering a reliable and delightful editing experience for Photos’ 1.5 billion users. Check out some of our recent launches that were featured in the Superbowl, Google I/O, and Made by Google: Create Tab (with I2V and Remix!), Conversational Editing, Magic Editor, Magic Eraser, Photo Unblur, and many more.

In this role, you will lead our Image Editing and Creation team. Your mission will be to enable your team to develop, launch, and iterate on the next generation of image effects and creation in the Google Photos app, leveraging Google's latest models. You'll collaborate with Android and iOS engineers, back-end engineers, and research partners to push the boundaries of what's possible in computational photography. You will be an exceptional communicator, highly pragmatic, and excited to be building alongside the team.

Google Photos is a photo sharing and storage service developed by Google. Photos is one of the most sought after products at Google and is looking for both client-side (web and mobile), with server-side (search, storage, serving) and machine intelligence (learning, computer vision) Software Engineers. We are dedicated to making Google experiences centered around the user.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $197,000-$291,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

Responsibilities

  • Manage an organization of Android and iOS developers with an opportunity to grow the team in the future while shaping our long-term technical strategy: balance scalability, latency, and feature quality while developing the next generation of leaders within Photos.
  • Set the team’s goal and strategy to grow editing usage and engagement across Google Photos’ user base, bringing the best of Photos’ editors to users around the world.
  • Build growth loops between editing and creativity, helping to understand engagement drivers and product opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain meaningful relationships with Photos’ product, UX, and infrastructure teams - along with Research groups across Google. Work across these groups to bring editing features to core surfaces in the Google Photos app.
  • Stay ahead of industry trends and initiate cross-Photos and cross-Google partnerships to develop new features to beautify users’ libraries.
