About the job

Our Security team works to create and maintain the safest operating environment for Google's users and developers. Security Engineers work with network equipment and actively monitor our systems for attacks and intrusions. In this role, you will also work with software engineers to proactively identify and fix security flaws and vulnerabilities.

The Office for Cybersecurity Resilience protects Alphabet and our partners by anticipating, detecting, mitigating, and recovering from cyber threats through data-driven risk management, secure-by-default technology, and dynamic controls. Key risks include insider abuse, AI-powered attacks, and unsecured cloud service integrations. Identity and access management is crucial to this mission, ensuring strong authentication and just-in-time privilege granting for users, AI agents, and services. The problem space is large with thousands of applications and endpoints that rely on our infrastructure's security 24/7. We, the Enterprise Access Security Engineering team, are responsible for materializing that goal and making risk reduction happen Alphabet-wide.

As a Staff Security Engineering Manager in Enterprise Access Security Engineering, you will lead a team of engineers to protect Alphabet’s most critical assets by building on an established security baseline, new, dynamic, risk-aware systems and controls capable of countering existing and novel threats, including AI-powered adversaries. You will define the team’s strategy, ensure the delivery of foundational threat models, and define and drive access risk reduction projects in collaboration with others. By partnering with teams like Enterprise Identity, Cloud and DeepMind, you will drive innovation while mentoring our engineers and fostering their growth. You will manage internal initiatives and team resources to minimize the attack surface and fortify the company’s security posture.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $197,000-$291,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. • Support efforts to reduce access risk and define access security policies in novel technology spaces, like agentic AI and hybrid connectivity (software service connectivity between Alphabet’s production cloud and other clouds).
  • Adjust team priorities to help our security engineers navigate and adapt to changes in our enterprise risk profile and business priorities.
  • Manage the day-to-day operation of the team, serving as an escalation point and providing security engineering leadership to resolve any critical issues.  Drive all team management functions (annual planning, performance management, career development, etc.).
