Minimum qualifications:

  • 15 years of experience in software engineering, building and working with systems in the technology organization.
  • 15 years of experience in architecting enterprise solutions working with globally distributed teams.
  • 8 years of experience managing a globally dispersed team.
  • 5 years of experience building IT products and services in international markets adhering to local compliance and business standards.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Machine Learning, or related technical field.
  • Experience in a complex, global organization in a regulated environment.
  • Experience managing teams of 600+ resources and managed budgets of $1B+ within a $10B+ multi-line-of-business environment.
  • Willingness to operate at both highly strategic and highly tactical levels.
  • Passion for every aspect of the job and excitement for corp engineering products.

About the job

As the VP, Engineering, Enterprise Architecture, Data & AI is a business and technology strategist you will be responsible for the internal systems and functions of Product Strategy & Architecture, Data Enablement, Enterprise Platform Engineering, Engineering Enablement, and Enterprise Analytics for Corporate Engineering globally. In this role, you will ensure the company's infrastructure is innovative, flexible, and aligned with the business strategy. You will lead, inspire, and invest in a global organization of 600+ technologists. Google is looking for a dynamic technology leader who works comfortably in a transforming product organization. You'll direct the planning, implementation, and support of technology systems to drive value creation and support business operations. You will forge successful working relationships with cross-functional partners in a fast-paced environment, and balance long-term strategic vision.

In addition, you will establish a strong point of view on what the future of corporate engineering landscape looks like and lead strategic and operational planning for product and internal engineering systems to achieve core business goals.

The Core team builds the technical foundation behind Google’s flagship products. We are owners and advocates for the underlying design elements, developer platforms, product components, and infrastructure at Google. These are the essential building blocks for excellent, safe, and coherent experiences for our users and drive the pace of innovation for every developer. We look across Google’s products to build central solutions, break down technical barriers and strengthen existing systems. As the Core team, we have a mandate and a unique opportunity to impact important technical decisions across the company.

The US base salary for this full-time position is $550,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a creative and innovative technology leader as well as a broad business and idea leader to build the future technology strategy across employee tools and technology and business systems.  
  • Build and maintain relationships with other senior executives to develop a clear understanding of business needs. Ensure delivery of the corporate engineering organization to meet needs and respond with agility to changing business priorities. 
  • Recruit, develop, and maintain an organization of corporate engineering staff. Develop and drive a talent strategy, build technology skills and capabilities needed for success.
  • Maintain operational excellence while creating a more efficient, agile and effective operational model that evaluates build versus buy opportunities. Leverage available resources.
  • Work with business sponsors, develop business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for in scope corporate engineering spending and initiatives.
