About the job

As the Data Engineer, Geo Operations, you will be responsible for leading the technical implementation for Geo partners, focusing on data systems and pipelines. You'll be responsible for designing and managing complex data, and acting as the "voice of the partner" in product feature prioritization discussions. This involves collaborating with internal product and engineering teams, as well as external partners, to increase the efficiency of how we implement Geo products.

The main focus for our team is building and sustaining robust data pipelines that accelerate vector-based geospatial data product creation and curation. The team's efforts directly address key operational challenges in data processing, tracking, and quality for the goal of delivering improved pipeline scale and reliability, reduced manual effort, and faster data delivery and publishing to Google Maps. We employ data engineering best practices in leveraging Google internal and Cloud infrastructure for building and maintaining Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) capabilities. We also deploy and manage industry-standard geospatial infrastructure and tooling, integrating such with Google-based technologies. Finally, we serve as an internal incubator to explore and test promising AI applications that can further enhance our capabilities.

The Geo team is focused on building the most accurate, comprehensive, and useful maps for our users, through products like Maps, Earth, Street View, Google Maps Platform, and more. Every month, more than a billion people rely on Maps services to explore the world and navigate their daily lives.

The Geo team also enables developers to use the power of Google Maps platforms to enhance their apps and websites. As they plot a course for the future of mapping, they are solving complex computer science problems, designing beautiful and intuitive product experiences, and improving our understanding of the real world.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the design, development, and scaling of robust data pipelines and common frameworks for data engineers and operations teams.
  • Build and maintain data models, pipelines, and exchange formats to support the delivery, visualization, and analysis of geospatial data.
  • Partner with cross-functional and operations teams to profile data, understand requirements, and publish data that enables data-driven decision-making.
  • Support client users by maintaining reports, queries, and dashboards while planning and sizing system migrations and dependency changes.
  • Support product launches by mitigating operational risks, optimizing workflows, and improving partner satisfaction through automation and self-service tools.
