Senior UX and Visual Designer, Consumer Shopping

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in product design or UX.
  • Experience working on B2C products, specifically e-commerce products. Experience collaborating with user researchers, other designers, product managers, and engineers.
  • Experience with mobile and desktop app design.
  • Experience designing and prototyping within interface design tools (e.g., Figma).
  • Include a portfolio, website, or any other relevant link to your work in your resume (providing a viewable link or access instructions).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 12 years of experience in product design or UX or 5 years of experience working in a complex, cross-functional organization.
  • 4 years of experience leading design projects and 3 years of experience working with executive leaders.
  • Ability to succeed in ambiguity.
  • Strong visual design skills.
  • Design portfolio demonstrating expertise designing useful, usable, and visually compelling cross-platform products, emerging from an iterative, user-centered design process.

Google’s Consumer Shopping UX team is responsible for shaping shopping experiences across a broad set of user touch points including Google’s largest products: Search, Shopping, Maps, Chrome, and more. Our products are used by people to find, research, and discover the items that meet their needs from the world's largest catalog of offers. This broad ecosystem of products, provides Google a unique vantage point and allows us to build delightful experiences that connect users and merchants everywhere throughout their shopping journey. In this role you will join the New Shopping Home team, a tight knit team working on a multi-year mission to reinvent how people use Google products in their shopping experiences: from finding the best price and discovering new merchants, to researching products and finding a perfect match using our innovative uses of augmented reality, machine learning, computing, and generative AI.

User experience is at the forefront of how we create intuitive, innovative, and beautiful products that people love. We strive to learn and understand our users’ needs, behaviors, and emotions to gather insights that inform product strategy and design. Our UX teams include designers, researchers, content strategists, and engineers who are passionate about quality, usability, and simplicity. We work on collaborative teams to solve complex challenges and craft experiences that highlight our products’ unique capabilities and personalities. Our work touches billions while exemplifying a key principle that is core to Google’s philosophy: “Focus on the user and all else will follow.”

Responsibilities

  • Lead the complete design process, from inception and concept to detailed implementation.
  • Shape the product strategy, and engage in leadership discussions within and beyond the team to influence overall direction.
  • Partner with UXR, UXE, UXW, and Engineering to transform ambiguous opportunities into high-quality designs for mobile and desktop.
  • Stay connected with Search and Commerce designers to understand the wider context and leverage shared learnings.
  • Mentor and guide other designers, serving as a role model and promoting a culture of continuous learning and growth within the team.
