Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4 years of experience working in sensor design, or 3 years of experience with an advanced degree.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time to support hardware builds.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

About the job

The Sensors Engineering team is at the forefront of creating and bringing to market sensing systems for Google's consumer hardware. They innovate by taking a broad view, transforming new technologies into products for everyone. The Watch and Tracker Health Sensing team focuses on pioneering, designing, validating, and integrating Photoplethysmogram (PPG), Electrocardiogram (ECG), and Electromyogram (EMG) sensors.

In this role, you will collaborate across teams to shape the technical goal, choosing and refining sensor technologies to enable groundbreaking user experiences. You'll expand the possibilities of what can be measured and understood through wearable devices using electrical engineering. You'll play a key role in developing concepts into finished products and enhancing the electrical architecture and ASIC for Google's wearables year after year. You will be responsible for prototyping new hardware, analyzing sensor data to identify valuable insights, and designing experiments to gather that data. This may involve numerous experiments, often incorporating both hardware and human interaction. You'll collaborate with a variety of technical specialists within the Technical Engineering (TechEng) team to manage complex issues, ultimately contributing to product launches in conjunction with other Google Engineering teams.
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $159,000-$231,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Design, analyze, prototype and validate electrical design of health sensors.
  • Create, review analog/digital circuit schematics and layout relative to sensors.
  • Examine distributions and set manufacturing limits.
  • Conduct failure analysis and debug of units created at the build.
  • Write engineering requirements specifications and engineering reports for projects.
