Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience with software development in in one or more programming languages (e.g., C/C++, Java, Go).
  • Experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure or distributed systems.
  • Experience with debugging/troubleshooting.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Experience with performance analysis, profiling, and system optimization.
  • Familiarity with debugging, observability, and tracing concepts and tools (e.g., Sherlog, Dapper).
  • Familiarity with Google's production environment and infrastructure (e.g. Colossus).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills.

The Core team builds the technical foundation behind Google’s flagship products. We are owners and advocates for the underlying design elements, developer platforms, product components, and infrastructure at Google. Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and improve software for Google's large-scale distributed tracing systems.
  • Collaborate with team members and cross-functional partners to deliver new features and enhancements to the tracing infrastructure, ensuring high quality, performance, and scalability.
  • Contribute to the technical outlook and roadmap for the evolution of tracing tools to meet emerging needs, including those from AI/ML and agentic workflows.
  • Analyze and optimize the performance and efficiency of tracing components and data pipelines. Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve complex issues within the tracing infrastructure.
  • Participate in design discussions, code reviews, and architectural decisions. Write and maintain clear technical documentation.
