Data Engineering Manager, Global Business Organization

  • 10 years of experience designing, building, and operating data infrastructure, data warehouses, and data pipelines.
  • 3 years of experience in a people management, supervision, or team leadership role.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience managing, mentoring, and growing teams of data engineers or software engineers.
  • Experience in advanced SQL and one or more general-purpose programming languages (e.g., Python or Java).
  • Experience partnering with non-technical stakeholders such as business leads, strategy teams, or product managers to translate business needs into actionable technical solutions.
  • Experience setting technical strategy, establishing data governance, or defining engineering standards and best practices for a team.

gTech’s Product and Tools Operations team (gPTO) leverages deep user, operational, and technical insights to innovate Google's Ads products into customer experiences that are so intuitive (or automated) that they require no support at all. gPTO partners closely with gTech’s Support, Professional Services, Product Management, and Engineering teams to innovate and simplify our Ads products and build the productivity tools ecosystem for gTech users.

Global Business Operations (GBO) Engineering is an embedded product and engineering team within Google’s Ad sales organization. We build consumer-grade internal tooling for sales, marketing and service teams.

Our cross-functional team of engineers, designers and product managers is responsible for internal platforms that support sales and marketing teams to run events, deliver professional services and manage large, commercial agreements with ads customers. These tools are part of a cohesive suite of internal tools that power the day-to-day workflows of Googlers in sales and marketing and meaningfully drive the business.

GBO Engineers Data Engineering Hub is a center of excellence for Data Engineering within Google's Go-to-Market organization. This group owns several mission critical areas including core infrastructure for advertising agreements, and the production of several data sets powering Google's advertising sales strategies.

The Global Business Organization (GBO) is the engine that powers Google’s full ecosystem of products and services to help customers and partners succeed and grow. GBO includes the commercial arms of Ads sellers, business development teams, and customer services and support, as well as overlay programs that enable coordinated engagement with Google's most complex and important customers and partners.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $186,000-$270,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Build and mentor a high-performing data engineering team, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.
  • Define the Data Engineering Hub’s technical strategy, aligning it with GBO and Google Ads business goals.
  • Establish agile workflows, development processes, and technical standards from the ground up.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional leads to influence go-to-market strategies and deliver high-value data solutions.
  • Oversee high-profile projects and build scalable core infrastructure to power global ads operations.
