Technical Writer, YouTube Developer Infrastructure

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 6 years of experience producing documentation for a technical audience, including experience writing across YouTube in documenting their tools, frameworks, and platforms.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in Technical background with software developers.
  • Experience working across multiple time zones.
  • Knowledge of researching and writing documentation for engineers.
  • Understanding of YouTube from both viewer and creator perspectives.

About the job

Technical writers plan, create, and maintain educational content as an integral part of the engineering or user experience. The content is often in the form of documentation, but may also be UI text, sample code, videos, or other educational material. Regardless of the content medium, technical writers are distinguished by their abilities to explain complex topics in a way that’s useful to their audience.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with subject matter experts from YouTube infrastructure teams and learn technical information and create educational resources that guide readers.
  • Drive a culture of documentation, helping engineers to develop resources that reduce the need to provide direct support to their users.
  • Edit, clarify, and enhance documents written by engineers and others.
  • Learn and explain new technologies from a user-centric perspective, research, develop and test content independently.
  • Manage documentation sets written for developer audiences.
