Optical Hardware Engineer, Augmented Reality Glasses

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a specialized field (e.g., Optics, Sensors, Audio/DSP, etc.), or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4 years of experience working in an optical design for wearable consumer products.
  • Experience with optical design tools for both imaging and nonimaging, such as Code V, Zemax, LightTools, and Macleod.
  • Experience with opto-mechanical design and parametric modeling tools such as Solidworks, CATIA, NX.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 6 years of experience working in an optical design for wearable consumer products.
  • Experience in plastic injection molding for complex optics (e.g., freeform and diffractive optical elements).
  • Experience in design of experiment (DOE) and statistical process control (SPC) in manufacturing.
  • Experience in optical metrology techniques including fizeau interferometry, white light interferometers, optical and contact CMMs, deflectrometry, roughness, and haze measurements.

About the job

We are seeking an experienced optical hardware engineer who will lead the development and manufacturing of optical systems. In this role, you will be instrumental in bridging the gap between optical design and high-volume production, ensuring the successful realization of next-gen augmented reality eye wear displays.

Responsibilities

  • Manages all aspects of process development at vendor sites including design for manufacturability (DFM), drawings, tooling reviews, injection molding, polished and molded glass elements, coating, bonding, automation, assembly, active alignment, component and image level metrology.
  • Develop tolerance models collaborating with the scale partner.
  • Leads vendor selection and qualification processes, building partnerships to achieve manufacturing goals.
  • Collaborates cross-functionally with optical design, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless transition from design to production.
  • Drives root cause analysis and implements corrective actions for process deviations and yield improvements.
