Director, User Experience, Google One

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Media, Communications, HCI, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 15 years of experience leading multi-disciplinary UX teams (i.e., design, research, content strategy) with a focus on up-leveling design craft.
  • Experience leading UX for consumer subscriptions, monetization, and growth-focused products.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience navigating large, globally distributed teams, with comfort and experience in shaping organization design for growing international hubs (e.g. APAC).
  • Advocacy for UX systems thinking and quality, with experience identifying quality improvement opportunities that also satisfy business goals.
  • Ability to balance long-term outlook setting with near-term execution, including defining a clear UX outlook for complex problems and building buy-in with cross-functional partners.
  • An optimistic, adaptable, and resilient leadership style, with the ability to inspire teams, identify velocity wins, and navigate cross-product area constraints effectively.

Google One is undergoing an evolution. We are transforming from a foundational cloud storage service into the premier gateway for Google’s advanced AI experiences. As the Director of UX, you will lead the design outlook for this critical pivot, shaping how millions of subscribers interact with next-generation AI tools seamlessly integrated across their digital lives. You will be at the vanguard of redefining premium value at Google, transitioning our user experience from simple, quiet utility to indispensable magic. Central to our growth is our strategic partnership with Google Photos, the emotional core and primary top-of-funnel engine for our storage business. In this role, you will pioneer innovative user experiences that seamlessly bridge the deeply personal act of memory preservation with the practical necessity of a Google One subscription. You will not only drive massive business impact at a global scale, but also ensure that users can safely store, elevate, and relive their most treasured moments.

As the UX Director for Google One, you’ll lead the experience for a fast growing subscription services and a critical investment area for Google. You will be responsible for leading and growing an industry leading, global UX organization, including design, research and content disciplines. In addition to being a UX discipline leader, you will act as an organizational leader, evolving how the organization works and up-levels with AI.

The Platforms and Devices team encompasses Google's various computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications), as well as our first party devices and services that combine the best of Google AI, software, and hardware. Teams across this area research, design, and develop new technologies to make our user's interaction with computing faster and more seamless, building innovative experiences for our users around the world.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $275,000-$383,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Be essential in up-leveling the craft, quality and cohesion of our subscription offerings. 
  • Operate with significant organizational and strategic influence, acting as a key partner to cross-functional leadership. 
  • Lead with outlook, grow in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, be adept at navigating rapid growth and strategic shifts, and help the team execute toward an inspiring outlook.
  • Serve as an advocate for our users, implementing systems-thinking, up-leveling quality, and identifying new opportunities and unmet user needs—balanced with achieving product and business goals. 
  • Provide craft leadership with a clear point of view on design quality, define compelling long-term user-focused outlooks that map to our strategy, build buy-in and effectively translate that outlook into a tangible roadmap.
