About the job

We are looking for a technical leader to manage a portion of the optics portfolio. In this role, you will not simply source parts, you will architect the supply chain for optical interconnects. You will be responsible for the sourcing strategy—from discussing Master Purchase Agreements (MPAs) to examining factory floor capacity models.
You will act as the primary owner for our transceiver suppliers while utilizing the manufacturing background to examine yields, improve production lines, and secure sub-component supply.

Behind everything our users see online is the architecture built by the Technical Infrastructure team to keep it running. From developing and maintaining our data centers to building the next generation of Google platforms, we make Google's product portfolio possible. We're proud to be our engineers' engineers and love voiding warranties by taking things apart so we can rebuild them. We keep our networks up and running, ensuring our users have the best and fastest experience possible.

Responsibilities

  • Build capacity models to validate supplier output against our demand forecasts. Identify bottlenecks in equipment (wire bonding, active alignment, testing) and labor.
  • Review supplier yield data (First Pass Yield, Final Yield). Partner with supplier engineering teams to drive root cause analysis and corrective actions to improve yields and reduce costs.
  • Conduct regular on-site technical and business audits. Assess manufacturing readiness, quality control systems, and operational health.
  • Identify single points of failure in the sub-tier supply chain and drive qualification of second sources.
  • Ensure material pipeline visibility. Manage constraints to secure product supply on time and prevent line-down situations. Examine the Tier-2 supply chain. Analyze availability and capacity for critical sub-components (lasers, DSPs, modulators).
