Technical Operations Manager, Third Party Data Centers (English, Portuguese)

Minimum qualifications:

  • Associate's degree, trade school certification, or other certified training in a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 9 years of experience in Electrical, Mechanical/Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC), or controls experience in an industrial/commercial environment.
  • 5 years of experience in a data center or facilities environment.
  • Ability to communicate in English and Portuguese fluently to support client relationship management in this region.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Management, or Reliability Engineering.
  • Experience communicating effectively with all levels of the organization, including executives.
  • Experience with reliability centered maintenance and engineering.
  • Ability to forecast resource requirements in a data-driven way.

About the job

The Data Center team designs and operates some of the most sophisticated electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and HVAC systems in the world. Facilities Technicians at Google data centers operate, monitor and support physical facilities conditions. Some of these duties will include heating and cooling of air and water, power supply, generators, UPS systems, electrical distribution and control and monitoring systems. You regularly help inspect, maintain and repair various data center systems such as piping and non-critical electrical or mechanical system components).

As an advocate for best practices, you develop creative approaches to reducing operational costs while improving overall data center efficiency. You ensure that environmental and safety standards are consistently met, identifying problems and making repairs quickly. In emergency situations or abnormal conditions, you manage data center performance issues and outages to minimize the recovery time from failures.

As a Data center Technical Operations Manager (TOM), you will serve as the principal site authority leader for the colocation campus, overseeing all aspects of electrical, cooling, and IT infrastructure, from initial site selection through decommissioning, you will bridge the gap between high-level design and day-to-day execution.

You will be responsible for the entire facility life-cycle, ensuring that all Google assets are engineered and managed for maximum operability, maintainability, and reliability to achieve 100% uptime within strict financial and safety parameters. You will partner closely with internal groups, including data center engineering, hardware operations, and network infrastructure—as well as third-party vendors to foster a proactive culture of technical innovation and operational excellence.The Data Center team designs and operates some of the most sophisticated electrical and Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems in the world. Responsibilities

  • Support site selection and deployment process through operational and technical expertise by evaluating market feasibility, utility reliability, and regional labor maturity to ensure the location can support long-term operational needs.
  • Manage co-location sites facility operations within an assigned area/region, maintaining full tactical and strategic accountability to ensure a steady-state Operations and Infrastructure
  • Oversee technical teams and team leads to ensure successful completion of required maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair tasks to maintain equipment to global standard.
  • Conduct operational assessment and risk analysis of third party co-location sites.
  • Lead the development of strategies to keep operational costs to a minimum, improve efficiency, and reduce environmental impact at a site, along with driving site-level development of programs and initiatives.
