Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with Federal and Provincial lobbying, commensurate legislative, or executive branch experience.
  • Experience representing a company or industry association in the Cloud, Internet, or Technology sector.
  • Experience in enterprise software and policy issues relevant to government procurement, national security, data sovereignty, and cloud adoption.
  • Experience in enterprise software and policy issues relevant to government procurement, national security, data sovereignty, and cloud adoption (e.g., Protected B compliance, Canadian defense policy).
  • Excellent leadership skills, including the ability to collaborate with multiple teams simultaneously and work independently.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills, along with attention to detail.

About the job

Google Cloud is seeking a Manager of Government Affairs and Public Policy to represent the company across Canadian Provincial and Municipal markets. You will serve as Google Cloud's primary policy representative to provincial and municipal policymakers, IT decision-makers, and government executives. This role is critical for driving business growth and addressing regulatory risks and opportunities within the public sector.Google takes its responsibilities seriously, including engaging with government and other stakeholders on important public policy challenges. The Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) team leads the company’s engagement with executive branch officials, legislators, regulators and third-parties in the formation of public policy. Working closely with Google leaders, GAPP seeks to identify key policy issues, adhere to carefully to others’ views and opinions, and distill and share the company’s perspective on those issues with external stakeholders. While we focus on challenges affecting the internet, our issue areas are increasingly broad and encompass many areas where public policy, business, and technology intersect.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead Google Cloud's policy and government affairs strategy for assigned federal and provincial government portfolios and specific defense sector initiatives.
  • Manage and coordinate a network of external lobbyists and consultants for policy engagement across Ottawa and key provincial capitals.
  • Provide policy advice to executives and build relationships with key government officials across federal and provincial levels (e.g., Ministers, Premiers' Offices).
  • Track, and shape Google Cloud's positions on legislation and policy trends concerning national security, procurement, data sovereignty, sovereign cloud, and Responsible AI.
  • Collaborate with Google Cloud Sales and internal stakeholders (Legal, Security) to ensure alignment of public policy goals and business growth strategies for government, education, defence, and municipal accounts. Ability to travel up to 25% as needed.
