Senior Software Engineer, Pixel Audio

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, and with data structures/algorithms.
  • 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
  • Experience with audio ML algorithm and pipeline design.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or related technical field.
  • Experience in AI/ML conferences on audio/speech processing. (e.g., ICML, ICLR, NeurIPS, ICASSP and Interspeech).
  • Experience with mainstream ML training frameworks such as TensorFlow, JAX, and PyTorch.
  • Experience in generative audio modeling including AudioLM (token based language modeling) or Diffusion models.
  • Experience in ML based speech codec, source separation, audio enhancement research and development.

Pixel Audio ML team develops and supports ML features across generations of Pixel devices including Phones and Tablets.

In this role, you will be responsible for algorithm development for audio use cases across Pixel. You will innovate, execute and validate audio solutions through offline simulation and real-time on-device hardware. You will interact with partner teams to innovate and design algorithms and android stacks to impact future Google audio technology roadmaps across the Pixel ecosystem. You will own ML model development, training and optimization, and contribute to model inference optimization into Android Kernel/HAL. You will design and fine tune ML models for Pixel devices, and contribute to the audio and speech algorithms development process. You will also contribute to rapid prototyping and delivery for audio features.The Google Pixel team focuses on designing and delivering the world's most helpful mobile experience. The team works on shaping the future of Pixel devices and services through some of the most advanced designs, techniques, products, and experiences in consumer electronics. This includes bringing together the best of Google’s artificial intelligence, software, and hardware to build global smartphones and create transformative experiences for users across the world.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $166,000-$244,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Write and test product or system development code.
  • Develop GenAI audio/speech features from model research to on-device inference.
  • Drive the research and development of AI/ML based on-device audio/speech features.
  • Deploy and scale Machine Learning (ML) solutions across Google Android platform and Pixel ecosystems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (such as DeepMind and Google Silicon) for feature development and landing of audio on-device features.
