Communications Manager, Technical Infrastructure

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7 years of experience in public relations, media relations, or communications.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience working in the cloud computing, hyperscaler, or enterprise technology space.
  • Experience working in large events and projects that require cross-functional collaboration.
  • Understanding of Google Cloud products and services with the ability to quickly learn about various areas of public policy and infrastructure.
  • Ability to maintain media relationships across business and technology press, and think strategically and develop creative communication strategies that drive results.
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to craft compelling narratives and build relationships with key stakeholders.

Google’s technical infrastructure its global network of data centers and fiber-optic cables is the essential foundation powering all our products and AI capabilities across Alphabet. Our team promotes and defends Google’s technical infrastructure, which includes the community and energy programs that make our infrastructure possible. As part of the Google Cloud Communications team in Global Communications and Public Affairs (GCPA), it’s our job to help inform and educate customers, partners, opinion leaders, and our own employees about the benefits of our products, our company culture and values, and our approach to the big public policy issues of the day.

In this role, you will work cross-functionally to help shape our communications strategy for Google’s global infrastructure in the communities. You will educate the market on the unique workforce and community development programs that make Google’s physical infrastructure possible around the world, driving stories about local impact at the local, regional, and global levels. Additionally, you'll maintain strong relationships with journalists and influencers, develop written materials and campaigns, and create new programs and counter misinformation that interferes with our business and serve our customers and users. You will be collaborating with executives across the organization, bringing a deep understanding of the technologies and policies impacting the industry today.

We help inform and educate users, advertisers, partners, opinion leaders--and our own employees--about the benefits of Google's products, our distinctive company culture/values and our approach to the big public policy issues of the day. You are quick-witted, entrepreneurial and intellectually curious. To succeed in this role, you are willing to try new things and can manage numerous projects with tight deadlines. Things happen quickly at Google, and to do great work, you need to be an enthusiastic team player who can work cross-functionally with partners across PR, Communications, Marketing, Product, and beyond.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the global external communications strategy for Google’s infrastructure in the Asia Pacific region, including data centers and subsea cables. 
  • Develop, write, and edit compelling communications materials, including statements, story pitches, and announcements. 
  • Be a trusted advisor and strategic thought partner to key business partners. 
  • Cultivate media and partner relationships to drive awareness, excitement, and factual reporting about Google’s global infrastructure.
  • Think creatively, take risks, and address tough issues as they arise and manage crisis communications scenarios as required.
