Senior Lead, Google Messages, Ecosystem Safety

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 13 years of experience in business strategy, technology research, anti-abuse, policy, data analytics, cyber-security, program management or related fields.
  • 2 years of experience in people management, leading teams.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 5 years of experience managing high-velocity teams.
  • Experience developing actor-level behavioral strategy and privacy-focused product protections for telephony or internet-scale products.
  • Experience leading large market rollouts, working with developer and user communities, working with channel partners etc.
  • Understanding of end-to-end encrypted communication products, or well as carrier products, and the unique safety challenges they present.
  • Ability to translate complex data analyses and emerging abuse trends into actionable business strategies for non-technical stakeholders and leadership.

The GoogleMessages Spam and Abuse team works on preventing abuse
within the SMS, RCS, and RBM ecosystem (Business to user, and User to business) - think millions of businesses (SMB and Enterprises) interacting with billions of users.

We are responsible for keeping our partners safe from malicious content (phishing, malware, scams) and unwanted interactions (spam). Over the next few years, we intend to double down and scale up the protections across the ecosystem, in strong partnership with product and engineering teams, with a focused goal of derisking RCS value to the business ecosystem overall.

Google Messages is at the forefront of a global transformation in business communication, driving the rapid adoption of RCS and RCS for Business Messaging (RBM) worldwide. To support this massive growth and ensure a secure experience for users and businesses alike, we are seeking a visionary Senior Lead to define and drive the global Trust and Safety strategy for the Google Messages ecosystem.

In this high-impact role, you will lead team of technology specialists, data analysts, policy and abuse specialists, and several other experts in protecting users from phishing, malware, and spam on a global scale, while growing the business at an unprecedented pace.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $219,000-$305,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Architect the end-to-end Trust and Safety for this high growth business, encompassing abuse detection, large-scale enforcement, and complex appeals for both user-facing and business-facing messaging.
  • Lead advanced AI/ML and reputation models to automate enforcement and improve operational effectiveness across millions of interactions.
  • Partner with executive leadership in Product and Engineering (and many many other market facing teams across Google) to ensure "safer-by-design" product features and influence the long-term roadmap for GoogleMessages.
  • Represent Google in global forums (e.g., Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA)) to advise on counter-abuse strategies and help shape evolving messaging standards.
  • Serve as the final point of escalation for high-stakes safety crises while upleveling the analyst team through advanced coaching and fostering a culture of technical excellence.
