Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a similar technical field of study, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience with software engineering and full-stack web application development.
  • 3 years of experience in people management or leading large-scale technical projects in a leadership capacity.
  • Experience with algorithm design and architecting systems.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • Experience driving strategic influence and navigating organizational complexity and change.
  • Experience applying AI in software solutions, including prompt engineering and model evaluation.
  • Experience with TypeScript, Angular, Java, or Python in a production environment.
  • Track record of impactful collaborations with cross-functional leadership in research and product areas.
  • Knowledge of DeepMind or Google technical infrastructure and internal development tools.

About the job

At DeepMind our mission is to build the world's first general-purpose learning agent. Central to this mission is the complex task of measuring the intelligence of our prototypes. As a Software Engineer, you will be working with the AI agents developed by our exceptional team of Machine Learning and Neuroscience research scientists. Your responsibilities will include everything from creating systems for agent testing using 2D and 3D games to developing test problems within physics simulators. You will create graphical visualization of results, build competitive agent leaderboards and test new algorithms on robots. To succeed in this role you will need to have a strong foundation in software engineering and enjoy working on a wide range of challenging problems within a mission-driven team.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $207,000-$300,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-stakes software projects by leading the design and deployment of scalable full-stack solutions and AI-powered platforms.
  • Develop strategic goals and technical roadmaps, ensuring alignment between team efforts and DeepMind organizational priorities.
  • Partner with executive stakeholders across research, products, and operations to gather requirements and drive technical delivery.
  • Provide technical leadership to solve non-obvious architectural issues, ensuring high standards for code quality, reliability, and security.
  • Develop the team through active mentoring, career coaching, and strategic hiring to foster a high-performing engineering culture.
