Import Classification Manager

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in an in-house Trade Compliance role or other Import classification role, with a focus on Global or APAC region.
  • Experience working with Harmonized Tariff Schedules including interpretation and application of classification concepts and references (e.g., General Rules of Interpretation, Section, Chapter Notes, Explanatory Notes, Rulings).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in import/export classification for high-tech goods (US EAR, ECCN), with a Customs Broker License.
  • Experience with Global Trade Management (GTM) systems (e.g., SAP GTS) and data analytics/visualization tools (e.g., Tableau).
  • Familiarity with international agency requirements, including China CIQ and Singapore Competent Authority (CA) codes.
  • Excellent investigative and project management skills to grow in a fluid, collaborative, cross-functional environment.
  • Ability to communicate in Mandarin Chinese fluently as this role requires interactions with the local department or agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary import classification subject matter expert for the APAC region, accurately classifying commodities using local Harmonized Tariff Schedules and providing global support as needed.
  • Collaborate with global trade compliance teams and other functional leads to ensure seamless operations.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, suppliers, customs brokers, and freight forwarders to gather product information and ensure accurate customs declarations.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all regional classification processes to ensure consistency and efficiency.
  • Conduct internal audits and risk assessments to verify compliance with trade regulations and identify opportunities to strengthen controls.
