Hardware Lab Generalist, Pixel

Minimum qualifications:

  • Associate's degree, trade school certification, other verifiable training in a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3 years of experience including lab equipment support and maintenance.
  • Experiences with soldering, disassembly/assembly of consumer electronic devices.
  • Experience in two of the following: thermal chamber and electrical equipment support, Cadence layout tool, electrical testing, Devices/Sensors, network support etc.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in a technical/engineering role, facilities management, equipment support, engineering/testing, electrical engineering or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of good lab practices, enforcing compliance to SOPs and enforcing proper lab etiquette.
  • Ability to specify and install test equipment, safety equipment, and knowledge of facilities work and capability to troubleshoot.
  • Ability to enforce Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all levels of the organization and external contractors when necessary.
  • Ability to be detail oriented, and an effective communicator.

About the job

The Pixel Watch System SAN Lab conducts electrical and system level performance tests of Google hardware products and investigations into failed materials, components, assemblies, and products during development.

In this role, you will use state-of-the-art facilities and equipment to create and accelerate stress conditions on the devices to better predict field performance, understand failure mechanisms and identify failure functional blocks for problem-solving. You will work closely with system EE, PD teams and other cross-functional teams to drive corrective actions within Google and throughout the supply chain to deliver the best Pixel products to the customers.

The team works on shaping the future of Pixel devices and services through some of the most advanced designs, techniques, products, and experiences in consumer electronics. This includes bringing together the best of Google’s artificial intelligence, software, and hardware to build global smartphones and create transformative experiences for users across the world.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $93,000-$133,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and schedule team efforts for rework, assembly, or disassembly within the scope of a larger project under guidance from executive engineers or managers.
  • Provide input and guidance to develop engineering rework instructions.
  • Demonstrate proficient knowledge and application of Google lab safety standards and electronics theory. Responsible for being the first point of contact for REWS, EHandS, GSRS, etc.
  • Manage the Calibrations and Maintenance programs for the Pixel Watch System Lab in San Diego.
  • Manage lab consumables, purchase programs for the Pixel Watch System Lab. Develop inventory management practices with eng-lab-logistics support and implement workflows for inventory in the Pixel Watch System Lab and maintain the equipment/supplies current status properly.
