Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience in embedded system design in the consumer electronics industry.
  • Experience with prototype bring-up, debugging, functional verification, and manufacturing support.
  • Experience in circuit board-level design engineering, including chipset, memory, high-speed interfaces, and power supplies.
  • Experience working within a lab-based environment.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 5 years of experience working in a consumer electronics/embedded system design technical role.
  • Experience working with OEM/ODM/JDM/CM partners.
  • Experience with system integration and software development from firmware through the system level.
  • Experience in high speed design and standard RF/WiFi interfaces at chipset, baseband, antenna integration levels.
  • Experience with mass-volume product development, focusing on Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Test (DFT).
  • Knowledge in embedded systems, processor selection, various communication protocols (SPI, I2C, UART, USB), analog design, sensor design, low power system design, Cadence/Allegro, RF, PCB/Flex technologies.

As an Electrical Engineer on the Watch product team, you'll be responsible for key design activities throughout the Watch product development phase. This includes focusing on technical design development and optimization, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and working closely with external suppliers and partners for design and manufacturing. You'll also work on some hardware (HW) related issues, failure analysis (FA) that receive feedback from users, early field failure analysis (EFFA), and return merchandise authorization (RMA).

The Platforms and Devices team encompasses Google's various computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications), as well as our first party devices and services that combine the best of Google AI, software, and hardware. Teams across this area research, design, and develop new technologies to make our user's interaction with computing faster and more seamless, building innovative experiences for our users around the world.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the electrical design integration and the validation of Google's Watch products. Deliver the boards (PCBA or FPCA) by performing all the design tasks including schematic and layout, collaboration with PD, SIPI, Power and sub-system teams for the design optimization.
  • Bring up the system, plan the validation, troubleshoot, and conduct the measurements. Debug issues discovered from factory production, reliability, user trials, and RMA.
  • Collaborate with technical teams on the key function design requirement alignment, board routing optimization, cost analysis, and drive the engineering activities with the high priority tasks, through the entire NPI phase.
  • Work with the operation team on giving the clear requirements for factory testing, process improvement, test coverage, and assembly issue FA and monitoring.
  • Contribute to the new technology study and development for design optimization and new features.
