Employee Relations Partner, Workplace Concerns

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience gained in either an HRBP, Employee Relations role, or equivalent experience as an employment attorney practicing employment law.
  • Experience consulting directly with employees and management.

Preferred qualifications:

  • JD degree with a focus on employment law.
  • Experience advising on a wide range of employee relations issues, including reorganizations and performance issues.
  • Ability to establish strong cross-functional relationships at all levels and geographies.
  • Ability to convey opinions and recommendations.
  • Excellent investigation interview techniques, communication, problem-solving, influencing and writing skills, with the ability to organize and analyze data.
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage global projects.

About the job

As a part of the Googler Experience team within People Operations, we are a forward thinking Employee Relations team that relies on both our subject matter expertise and empathy to help make a better Google by being there for Googlers in the moments that matter most. We conduct thorough and timely reviews into allegations of violations of Google HR policies and review and advise on other workplace concerns to ensure fair treatment of all Googlers. We support the learning and development of each member of our team and provide both training and practical experience to support the cultivation of employee relations expertise.

As an Employee Relations Partner in the Workplace Concerns practice area, you will rely on your expertise in applicable employment law and best practices to interpret and apply Google policy to provide consultative services to aid in the resolution of workplace concerns. Your responsibilities include conducting thorough intakes with Googlers with care and empathy while keeping the Googler experience in mind, identifying the policies implicated, engaging the appropriate partners, gathering the information necessary and ensuring a timely resolution. You may also have the opportunity to support investigations of harassment, discrimination and retaliation.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $113,000-$162,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Review and resolve employee concerns that include performance, promotion, and pay processes and/or potential violations of Google’s standards of conduct, to ensure fair treatment of all Googlers.
  • Utilize best practice Employee Relations interview techniques to gather all pertinent information and synthesize the information using credibility factors.
  • Partner with Employee Relations investigators and support partner investigations (i.e., Regulatory Affairs, Security Investigations and Assessments), which may include note taking, advising and drafting and delivering discipline. Flexibility to collaborate across teams, regions and time zones.
  • De-escalate and resolve matters as appropriate using empathetic listening and conflict resolution skills. Communicate clear guidance and coaching to Googlers, People Operations partners and management, and influence as necessary.
  • Draft summaries and recommendations to document and resolve complex issues and advice as necessary.
