Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 7 years of experience in communications within the technology industry or in a corporate environment.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience building and executing new programs and managing them to scale.
- Experience with direct communication to audiences through social media, press, and owned platforms.
- Experience working on large events and projects that require cross-functional collaboration.
- Experience working with executive leaders and developing their external presence across traditional and new media channels.
- Experience with data-driven storytelling and turning technical information into compelling narratives for various audiences.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to grow in changing, ambiguous environments.
About the job
As a member of the Global Communications & Public Affairs team, you will work cross-functionally to help communicate with journalists and other thought leaders; devise specific communications materials and campaigns; engage in face-to-face meetings with commentators and other opinion formers; and develop print and web-based material supporting these campaigns. We're looking for great communicators who can understand complex issues and explain them in person and also via well written, simple blog posts, FAQs, video scripts and more.
The External Communications Manager will play a key role in the Search Communication team to leverage data-insights and trends to demonstrate Search’s momentum and growth at an incredibly dynamic moment for the company. You will support a data-driven storytelling effort that spans many audiences including business and tech press, social media, customers and partners, and our users. You will work closely with Google’s data science team to identify important metrics, and will partner with other communications teams to support tentpole moments like quarterly earnings calls and Input/Output. You will lead a multichannel strategy (including social media) to positively position Search by releasing insights, monitoring the industry, and leading rapid response on issues related to the competitive landscape. You will be a creative and curious self-starter who is detail oriented, a team player and excited about data-driven storytelling.
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $134,000-$196,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. - Build/execute a data-driven storytelling program that demonstrates Search’s relevance/growth across audiences including consumers, partners, and press. Find creative angles around Search behavior (e.g. market insights, Gen Z search trends) to reinforce relevance of Search.
- Partner with the Data Science team and build a proactive program/strategy around releasing new insights about Search momentum.
- Partner with the Search and Ads comunications teams on integrated strategies that support major go-to-market moments and events like quarterly earnings.
- Build media and social programs to amplify Google Trends data and insights at scale. Work with agency partners to track competitor momentum, and develop proactive and rapid response strategies to favorably position Search.
- Maintain/build relationships with a broad range of reporters in both traditional and new media by being a go-to source for data-driven insights and Google Trends.
