Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10 years of experience in public relations, media relations, or communications.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience managing relationships with global media outlets and navigating the evolving creator economy.
  • Experience with partner-driven communication strategies.
  • Ability to build consensus across matrixed organizations and lead cross-company initiatives.

About the job

As a member of the Global Communications & Public Affairs team, you will work cross-functionally to help communicate with journalists and other thought leaders; devise specific communications materials and campaigns; engage in face-to-face meetings with commentators and other opinion formers; and develop print and web-based material supporting these campaigns. We're looking for great communicators who can understand complex issues and explain them in person and also via well written, simple blog posts, FAQs, video scripts and more.

As the External Communications Manager for Health AI, you will architect the narrative that positions Google as the global leader in applying AI to benefit people’s health. You will have a blend of technical fluency, creative storytelling, and an ability to navigate ambiguity and work with many different research and product teams. You will demonstrate how our technical breakthroughs translate into real-world benefits for communities worldwide.

You will translate AI for health efforts into social media-friendly engagement, headline-worthy announcements, compelling briefings, and well-targeted speaking opportunities. You will ensure technical accuracy while highlighting the most exciting aspects of our progress, ensuring Google is recognized for leading in significant and helpful research and product advancements that support people’s health. You will be a master of cultivating relationships internally and with the most influential media and creators to convey all this to broad global audiences.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $171,000-$254,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Design and execute multi-channel comms strategies that highlight Google’s leadership in AI to support healthcare and medical discovery.
  • Partner with Research, Product, and our global and central communications teams to identify breakthrough moments and translate technical milestones into compelling human-centric stories.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with science, technology, and policy journalists, as well as influential digital creators, to reach global audiences.
  • Lead the storytelling life-cycle for flagship projects; secure and prepare experts for high-stakes speaking engagements, media briefings, and industry-leading conferences.
  • Manage reactive messaging and inquiries with precision, ensuring technical accuracy and clarity.
