Customer Engineering, Database Management Specialist, Google Cloud

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
  • 6 years of experience in technical sales.
  • Experience working in an enterprise business and database engineering role with database technologies, PL/SQL development, administration and management tools, database performance tuning techniques, troubleshooting, PostgreSQL data migrations, delivering technical presentations, and live demonstrations of database products.
  • Experience working with multiple database technologies - MongoDB, MariaDB, Cassandra, PostGreSQL, Redis, Oracle, SQL Server etc.
  • Experience with cloud-based database architectures and deployments (e.g., GCP, etc.), and distributed or big data technologies.
  • Experience engaging with, and presenting to, technical stakeholders and executive leaders.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience leading Oracle/DB2 to PostgreSQL migrations with zero-downtime strategies.
  • Experience optimizing database performance for transactional and analytic workloads.
  • Experience developing disaster recovery and data backup strategies.
  • Experience with cloud-based database architectures and deployments.
  • Knowledge of DevOps principles, database automation, and regression testing.
  • Proficient in SQL, deep query troubleshooting, and schema conversion tools.

Responsibilities

  • Be a subject matter expert in Google Cloud databases such as Cloud SQL, AlloyDB, Cloud Spanner, and Cloud Bigtable. Guide customers in selecting the right database solutions based on their needs.
  • Lead discovery workshops to assess application environments, identify workloads, and define goals for migration to Google Cloud databases. Provide insights to optimize database performance and scalability.
  • Support customers by conducting product briefings, proof-of-concept work, and technical integrations. Demonstrate Google Cloud products in real-world use cases.
  • Design target architectures and database migration strategies, minimizing effort, risk, and downtime. Share best practices to promote GCP database adoption across teams.
  • Identify business opportunities, resolve technical blockers, and collaborate with stakeholders. Travel to customer sites, conferences, and industry events as needed to advocate for Google Cloud database solutions and drive adoption.
