Technical Lead Manager, Trust and Safety, Technology and Innovation Engineering

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development, including experience with distributed systems and large-scale backend infrastructure.
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role, including defining technical roadmaps, prioritizing workstreams, and managing execution for a software engineering team.
  • 3 years of experience with full stack development, across back-end such as Java, Python, Golang, or C++ codebases, and front-end experience including JavaScript or TypeScript, HTML, CSS or equivalent.
  • 2 years of experience in a people management or team leadership role.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • Experience in building Agentic AI Systems and integrating them in operational workflows.
  • Experience building a new product, team, or major system component from the initial concept phase through to production launch.
  • Experience in applying AI/ML principles to large-scale problems.
  • Ability to design and implement large-scale, complex systems, considering scalability, reliability, and long-term maintainability.
  • Ability to focus on innovation and rapid iteration, with effective entrepreneurial mindset.

With technical and leadership expertise, you manage engineers across multiple teams and locations, a large product budget and oversee the deployment of large-scale projects across multiple sites internationally.

As a Tech Lead Manager (TLM) in Trust and Safety, Technology and Innovation Engineering organization, you will build a high-performing team, products, and infrastructure from the ground up, turning a high-level goal into an operational reality.

You will resolve high-level ambiguity and drive the architectural direction of complex distributed systems. You will lead a team of software engineers, collaborating closely with analysts, data scientists, and policy experts to develop scalable solutions that protect our users and uphold Google’s commitment to safety across the entire technical stack, from infrastructure to platforms and tooling.
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $207,000-$300,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Identify and propose new ways to leverage technology, automation, and AI to accelerate the trust and safety mission. Design and develop solutions to automate and enhance operations, enabling teams to scale their user protection impact efficiently.
  • Lead critical technical initiatives for trust and safety, from requirements gathering to implementation and deployment. Define and own the technical roadmap for the team, translating goals into executable engineering workstreams.
  • Guide the team in building scalable, reliable, and high-quality AI-powered solutions and infrastructure, empowering tech leads and ensuring best practices, including code quality, testing, and documentation.
  • Set clear expectations, provide regular performance feedback, and mentor engineers to support their growth, fostering a collaborative, high-performing team culture.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners (leadership, enforcement, policy) across trust and safety to define and evolve the product roadmap for the organization's technology stack.
