Communications Lead, Jigsaw

About the job

In this role, you will develop and execute Jigsaw's communication strategy. This includes promoting thought leadership and increasing mindshare through media relations, including pitching stories to journalists and identifying opportunities. You will collaborate with internal teams to highlight product developments, partnerships, and research contributions. You will also work with the marketing team on product positioning and Go-to-Market (GTM) strategies and build relationships across Alphabet to ensure alignment on public messaging. Additionally, you will elevate the profile of Jigsaw leaders through strategic communications and media training, advise on crisis communications, and build relationships with key members of the press.Jigsaw is a unit within Google that explores threats to open societies and builds technology that inspires scalable solutions. Our team addresses a range of global security challenges including defending against digital attacks, mitigating the rise of online hate and harassment, countering extremism, and fighting censorship. Jigsaw offers mission-driven work within a nimble interdisciplinary team, connections to academia and civil society, and a quick path to taking technology public.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $159,000-$239,000. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Develop and drive thought leadership and mindshare through storytelling across earned media channels, which include pitching feature stories to journalists, identifying opportunities, social media strategy.
  • Work with research, engineering, product, and executive stakeholders across the Jigsaw team to identify and promote product development efforts, partnerships, and research contributions.
  • Partner with Jigsaw’s marketing team to advise product teams on positioning, timing, and GTM strategy across Jigsaw’s evolving products (e.g., Outline VPN tool adoption, Perspective API usage for content moderation).
  • Develop cross-Alphabet relationships (e.g. with Public Policy teams, Google AI teams, YouTube, Trust and Safety, Policy Comms) to ensure alignment on public-facing messaging and create opportunities for Jigsaw to contribute to cross-company narratives.
  • Build the public profile of key Jigsaw leaders and spokespeople through strategic consultation, media training, and execution of smart and thoughtful communications strategies.
