Mosquito Biologist/Scientist

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3 years of experience in pest control or other ecological research vector.

Preferred qualifications:

  • PhD or equivalent practical experience in Entomology, Biological Sciences, or a related field.
  • Experience in data analytics with Google Sheets, R, or Python to support daily tasks, presentations, and reports.
  • Knowledge of standard molecular biology techniques, particularly PCR and genomic sequencing.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to flexible hours to meet project deadlines.

The Debug team is an interdisciplinary group of passionate individuals, including mosquito biologists, data scientists, software engineers, hardware engineers, build technicians, and operations specialists. We are dedicated to developing innovative solutions to reduce the impact of mosquito-borne diseases. At Google, we collaborate with global partners to deploy novel tools that help control populations of disease-transmitting mosquitoes, ultimately improving human health and longevity.

As our operations in Singapore and the broader Asia-Pacific region expand, we are seeking a skilled Mosquito Biologist/Scientist to ensure the quality of our Wolbachia-infected male mosquito production and release operations. This will be achieved through meticulous observation, investigation, experimentation, and troubleshooting. You will be based at our Debug mosquito factory in Singapore and will have opportunities to conduct research and development on new mosquito strains and innovative methods/devices for mass rearing, distribution, and field release.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain quality control of mosquito production and field release at Debug’s Singapore facility.
  • Characterize the bionomics and performance of new mosquito strains including insectary-based fitness assays.
  • Test performance of new rearing methods/equipment on key mosquito output metrics.
  • Conduct and oversee morphological and molecular analyses of mosquitoes, including qPCR and ddPCR.
  • Develop and execute release plans for large scale production and release of mosquitoes  in Singapore.
