About the job

Core Data’s Information Retrieval (IR) pillar mission includes establishing a robust data ecosystem and making it accessible to Google products for both traditional IR and AI applications.

As a Technical Program Director of the IR PMO, you will be responsible for driving the execution and delivery of the Information Retrieval (IR) organization’s strategic vision. You will serve as a strong partner to the VP of Engineering, Director of Product, and other Engineering Directors, while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

You will also lead and grow the IR PMO team and contribute directly to key strategic initiatives for the organization in the areas of foundational excellence, programs that empower innovation and strategic programs for the organization leading to AI-Driven future.

This work will require strong partnership across IR, Core Data, Core pillars, product areas across the company in a rapidly evolving, fast-paced environment.

The Core team builds the technical foundation behind Google’s flagship products. We are owners and advocates for the underlying design elements, developer platforms, product components, and infrastructure at Google. These are the essential building blocks for excellent, safe, and coherent experiences for our users and drive the pace of innovation for every developer. We look across Google’s products to build central solutions, break down technical barriers and strengthen existing systems. As the Core team, we have a mandate and a unique opportunity to impact important technical decisions across the company.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $253,000-$363,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Drive technical projects from requirements through launch, including managing complex project schedules, removing roadblocks and keeping processes running smoothly. 
  • Partner closely with engineering and product management teams to define, prioritize, and implement features, infrastructure, processes, and workflows.
  • Manage a distributed team of Technical Program Managers that drive projects across IR.
  • Manage communication of progress/status within the core team and with our partners.
