Developer Relations Engineer, Android and Play, Games

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a similar technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3 years of work experience in a technical role (e.g., software engineering, solutions consultant, etc.) or equivalent.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 2 years of experience in game development based on Unity, Unreal or C/C++/C# custom game engines.
  • Experience in Scripting and tooling in Android development environment such as Renderdoc, Perfetto, Frame Pacing API, SurfaceFlinger, GFXReconstruct and Android GPU Inspector.
  • Experience working with Quality Assurance (QA)/Quality Engineering (QE) teams for device hardware and OS/software production.
  • Knowledge of GPU pipeline such as OpenGL ES, Vulkan, Metal, or DirectX.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate with internal teams and external partners.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

Passionate people are everywhere at Google. In Developer Relations, we get excited to collaborate and connect with the communities that love technology as much as we do. Part community manager and part developer advocate, Developer Relations Engineers collaborate with developers at conferences and online, and advocate for developers interests internally at Google. You write sample code and client libraries as well as participate in developer forums and support queues to troubleshoot and debug coding problems developers encounter. Internally, you work with product engineering teams to improve our products by conveying feedback from developers, reviewing API designs and testing new features. Chrome, Android, App Engine, HTML5 as well as our core Google Apps and Ads APIs are just some of the platforms you promote and support.

With your technical expertise, you drive strategy around fostering a community of developers who work with Google technologies. An ardent advocate for these developers, you represent their voice internally to our Product Managers and serve as their Google support in application development and technology implementation.

As a Developer Relations Engineers, you will drive a variety of exciting work such as, providing on-site technical engagement (e.g. code analysis and contribution) for showcase product integrations and resolution of launch blockers. You will engage external developers on Product/Tool adoption on Android/Play, and funnel critical feedback regarding driver quality, tools/platform bugs. You will also provide developer technical support and engagement for the latest Pixel devices and create content (e.g. code samples, codelabs, documentation, video, blogs, case studies). Additionally, you will advocate on the latest products at events.

Responsibilities

  • Work with game developers and game engines in China (and APAC) to support new product integrations on flagship Pixel devices.
  • Enhance performance of AA/AAA game titles, resolve engineering problems with Google technologies and expand the knowledge to improve the overall gaming ecosystem.
  • Advocate for game developers internally and influence Google developer product strategy by working with Product Management, Engineering, Marketing, Business Development, PR and other cross-functional teams.
  • Drive regular, engineering-focused workshops and meetings with developers to enhance the gaming experience and resolve the technical problems. These communications would often be done in Mandarin to provide the best possible experience for partners in the region.
