Mechanical Commodity Specialist

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical or engineering field or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4 years of experience in procurement and supply chain management.
  • Experience in mechanical commodity management, agreement negotiation and supplier development.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 5 years of experience as a commodity specialist with two of those in mechanicals.
  • Deep knowledge of mechanical commodities, suppliers and technologies for data center applications.
  • Working knowledge of sheetmetal, plastic process and materials.
  • Effective communication/presentation skills.

Commodity Managers work with Engineering teams to make sure Google has the supplies and equipment to put into production the innovative products coming from our Engineering teams. As a Commodity Manager, you use your wide industry knowledge and strategic supplier relationships to optimize our total cost of ownership for our global -- and growing -- infrastructure. Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed cost analysis, should-cost modeling, and competitive benchmarking to ensure exceptional pricing.
  • Manage and negotiate costs associated with Non-Recurring Engineering (NRE), Capital Expenditures (CapEx), and tooling.
  • Manage and mitigate commercial liabilities, including Excess and Obsolete (E&O) inventory, Purchase Price Variance (PPV), and rework costs.
  • Establish and manage a robust commercial performance management framework, including scorecards and Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs) with partner executives.
  • Serve as the primary commercial point of contact for dispute resolution, escalations, and strategic alignment with partners. Build and maintain strong, long-term strategic relationships with key stakeholders at our partner organizations, from operational counterparts to C-level executives.
