Software Engineering Manager II, Chrome AI

Minimum qualifications:

  • 8 years of experience in software development (e.g. Python).
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role.
  • 2 years of experience in a people management or team leadership role.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), Natural Language Processing, or related machine learning fields.
  • Experience with model development, training, evaluation, prompt engineering, and deploying AI/ML systems into production.
  • Experience working on large-scale, user-facing products.
  • Familiarity with Chrome browser architecture, web technologies, or client software development.
  • Ability to grow in a fast-paced, dynamic, and ambiguous environment.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.

With technical and leadership expertise, you manage engineers across multiple teams and locations, a large product budget and oversee the deployment of large-scale projects across multiple sites internationally.

As an L6 Engineering Manager for Gemini in Chrome, you will lead a team of engineers dedicated to enhancing Gemini in Chrome's quality through the integration of Generative AI technologies. You will be at the forefront of productionizing advanced AI systems at Google scale, driving innovation in how AI can make the Chrome browser more helpful, reliable, and intelligent. This role requires a leader who grows at the intersection of the AI, user-centric product development, and rigorous engineering practices. You will foster a culture of excellence, balancing rapid innovation with the need for scalable, robust, and responsible AI-driven features.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $207,000-$300,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Manage, mentor, and grow a high-performing engineering team. Foster a culture of innovation, rapid prototyping, collaboration, and continuous learning. Provide career guidance and development opportunities for team members.
  • Define and drive the technical roadmap for leveraging Gemini and AI Agents to improve Chrome quality. Stay abreast of the latest advancements in GenAI and identify promising technologies to explore.
  • Advocate an agile, results-oriented approach, balancing speed of execution with technical excellence.
  • Ensure model performance translates to tangible improvements in product quality and user experience.
  • Partner with Product Management, UX, Research, GeminiApp, and other engineering teams across Chrome and Google to define product outlook, refine requirements, establish success metrics, and ensure impactful and responsible feature launches.
