Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, similar degree/field or equivalent practical experience.
- 20 years of experience in software engineering leadership roles.
- 15 years of experience with conversational agents and generative AI concepts (e.g., LLMs, fine tuning, distillation, function calling and orchestration etc.), development workflows, and use cases.
- 10 years of experience leading and managing engineering teams, with experience in project delivery.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master's or PhD degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Mining, Information Systems, or related disciplines.
- 15 years of experience in cloud-based development with Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar ML frameworks. Experience with MLOps.
- Experience in applying AI solutions and ML-related technologies to solve real-world AI/ML problems in consumer or enterprise applications.
- Experience with active participation in the AI/ML open-source community or relevant industry consortia.
- A visionary mindset with the ability to identify emerging trends in AI and developer tools, and translate them into actionable strategies.
About the job
As Senior Director, you will be responsible for the engineering teams developing the emerging agents in Applied AI serving the needs of customer interaction applications in areas like commerce and enterprise services. You will be responsible for defining and developing the technical infrastructure and product functionality for these applications, working with multiple Google organizations, customers, and partners.
In this role, you will utilize experience managing dynamic Engineering teams with a focus on GenAI applications and delivering results in a timely manner. You will have experience building partnerships and relationships with partner teams and be comfortable navigating highly ambiguous situations. Setting outlook and direction, improving productivity, quality standards, resolving systemic problems, identifying trends and implementing change are all keys to success.
Additionally, you will define and advocate for a visionary roadmap for Google Cloud's Applied AI conversational agents portfolio. You will balance innovation, user research, and industry trends to push the boundaries of developer experience. You build, mentor, and inspire a team of engineers and partner closely with the broader Applied AI and Cloud AI and Google Deepmind teams, and external developer communities to align platform development with real-world use cases and pain points.Google Cloud accelerates every organization’s ability to digitally transform its business and industry. The US base salary range for this full-time position is $349,000-$485,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. - Maintain a direct approach to software design, architecture, and coding standards to ensure the highest quality and scalability of our developer tool suite.
- Represent Google Cloud as an industry leader in generative AI development, contributing to conferences, publications, and open-source initiatives.
- Attract, mentor, and develop engineering talent, creating a high-performing and motivated team.
- Act as an advocate for developers, understanding their needs and ensuring that the Vertex AI Developer Experience Team delivers solutions that delight and empower users.
- Ensure the team maintains high standards of technical excellence, scalability, and reliability in all aspects of software development.
