Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 5 years of experience in AI ethics and safety within a governance, policy, legal, or research role.
- Experience leading end-to-end assessments of ethical and societal questions related to technology development, balancing risks and benefits across various applications.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master's degree.
- Experience working with AI governance processes within a public or private institution.
- Experience communicating concepts to a range of collaborators, both in writing and executive presentations.
- Experience in product management, legal analysis, or other related fields.
- Experience focusing on technology/AI ethics and safety, and distilling impact analysis into insights.
- Experience with technical AI models and the broader ecosystem, synthesizing material into accessible formats, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, and executive stakeholder management.

As an Emerging Impacts Manager, you will deliver tangible, grounded, and forward-looking intelligence for teams across DeepMind; ultimately, you will advance our mission to develop Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) responsibly for the greater good of humanity.

Responsibilities
- Lead ethics and safety reviews of projects and engage early with model teams to assess downstream societal implications and navigate governance considerations.
- Collaborate closely with DeepMind safety communities and broader teams to inform model policy, prepare for emerging AI capabilities, and refine assessment frameworks through monitoring real-world impact.
- Design and run engagement models, such as workshops and external expert consultations, to address ethics and safety issues and identify new research areas.
- Develop and document best practices for DeepMind projects by working with internal experts and external organizations.
- Support the responsibility and safety council by frequently presenting project assessments and communicating with executive stakeholders.
