Senior Staff Engineer, Mobile, YouTube Create

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development, and with data structures/algorithms.
  • 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products, and 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.
  • Experience in mobile app development, mobile optimization, or mobile design.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with software development with one or more general programming languages (e.g., Java, C/C++, C#, Python, JavaScript, or Go).
  • Experience in Android or iOS, and Flutter, video codecs, or video editing.

YouTube is growing its investment in becoming creators’ home for video editing and creation, enabling mobile users around the world to express their creativity through video.

YouTube Create is a dedicated, AI-powered video editing app designed to help engaged and purposeful creators in creating, editing, enhancing and crafting their videos for publishing on YouTube and beyond. The app is a leading effort to bring more powerful and helpful creation tools to people, on their mobile devices, utilizing Google’s deep ML and Generative AI expertise to make the process of creating and editing videos easier and faster.

The YouTube Create app will be owned and developed by a fully cross-functional team based out of Bengaluru. This team will be responsible for defining the product strategy, roadmap, and execution.

Responsibilities

  • Be the Technical Lead for entire YouTube Create App (iOS and Android). Establish and advocate for best engineering practices across teams at YouTube.
  • Launch end to end user facing features that revolutionize Video Creation (e.g. long/short form) through the YouTube Create app on Android and iOS.
  • Work closely with partner teams to integrate media processing, effects production, fun assets, client infrastructure, and more. 
  • Work in a combination of Flutter (for much of UX and data layer of the app) and native Android/iOS (for media and backend integrations).
  • Drive cross-organizational collaboration and ensure the strategy, direction, and decisions of multiple work streams are integrated, aligned, and positioned to support differentiation.
