Technical Program Manager, HPC and Research Computing, Google Public Sector

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Computational Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in technical program or project management, with 3 years of experience in HPC, scientific computing, or research IT environments.
  • Experience with HPC hardware (e.g., CPUs, GPUs, interconnects), software stacks, and cluster management.
  • Experience with new and emerging technologies, methodologies, and solutions in the cloud space.
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms (GCP) and their application to HPC workloads, and distributed computing frameworks and HPC Schedulers (Spark, Hadoop, Slurm).
  • Ability to travel domestically up to 20% of the time.

Preferred qualifications:

  • PMP, Agile project management certification, or similar.
  • Experience leading the full end-to-end business cycle for complex professional services engagements.

As a Technical Program Manager at Google, you’ll use your technical expertise to lead complex, multi-disciplinary projects from start to finish. You’ll work with stakeholders to plan requirements, identify risks, manage project schedules, and communicate clearly with cross-functional partners across the company. You're equally comfortable explaining your team's analyses and recommendations to executives as you are discussing the technical tradeoffs in product development with engineers.

The State Local and Education East team is a high-performing, integrated team within GPS Services, focused on delivering comprehensive, security-centric solutions to our SLED public sector customers in the East. You will take on a pivotal role in transforming how our critical public sector customers leverage Google Cloud solutions.

As a Technical Program Manager, you will be at the forefront of orchestrating and optimizing a portfolio of large-scale, multi-year technical transformation engagements that drive significant value and improve constituent experience. You will provide thought leadership, technical goal, and delivery management expertise, collaborating extensively with cross-functional Google executives, sales teams, and key technical leaders including Architects, Engineers, and stakeholders like CTOs and CIOs. You will be a leader who operates with a high degree of autonomy and trust, taking ownership and driving outcomes through clear strategic intent.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $156,000-$229,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategy, planning, and successful delivery of a portfolio of large, multi-year technical transformation engagements for Google's Education customers.
  • Lead cross-functional project teams, including system administrators, Central IT, and researchers.
  • Oversee project schedules, budgets, scope, and resource utilization, proactively identifying and mitigating risks.
  • Foster a collaborative environment between research, engineering, and operations teams.
  • Define, plan, and execute High Performance Computing (HPC) and Research Computing transformation programs from scoping to delivery, aligning with customer goals and research priorities.
