Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10 years of professional experience as an engineering leader.
  • Experience providing technical guidance and enabling teams to deliver services that benefit internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience building global teams and partnering with global stakeholders.
  • Experience with technology and mobile or distributed systems.
  • Experience with technical innovation within cross-functional engineering environments.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • Experience partnering with cross-functional leads as well as product leadership across a complex organization.
  • Experience building highly effective engineering organizations, partnering closely with cross-functional teams and influencing without authority.
  • Experience navigating complex organization environments, and partnering well and developing shared goals with senior leads across the organization.
  • Experience with developing large-scale full-stack communication infrastructure, growth oriented mindset and product development.
  • Knowledge of full-stack SWE design practices, including highly efficient and reliable platform design, BE/FEmobile development, API/SDK design, data modeling and 1P client integration management.

By leveraging key mechanisms, including Sharing, Notifications, and Growth strategies, we’re able to optimize user engagement with Google services and reinforce the value proposition of our ecosystem.

As the Senior Engineering Director, you will focus on developing large-scale full-stack communication infrastructure as well as people and sharing infrastructure, growth oriented cross-product and in-product user experiences, and data oriented decision making. You will know how to collaborate effectively with cross-functional partners within the organization, as well as with senior engineering and product leadership across the company, to develop and execute on shared goals and strategies.

The Core team builds the technical foundation behind Google’s flagship products. We are owners and advocates for the underlying design elements, developer platforms, product components, and infrastructure at Google. These are the essential building blocks for excellent, safe, and coherent experiences for our users and drive the pace of innovation for every developer. We look across Google’s products to build central solutions, break down technical barriers and strengthen existing systems. As the Core team, we have a mandate and a unique opportunity to impact important technical decisions across the company.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $349,000-$485,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Lead an engineering organization across multiple geos, be responsible for delivering a high quality technical vision, design, and portfolio of solutions in the Sharing and Connection, Ecosystem Journeys and Growth spaces. Those solutions are used across Google’s user-facing products and Marketing organizations, and are central to helping value for Google’s users across the ecosystem.
  • Set the roadmap and OKRs for the team, strategically balancing customer needs, security, efficiency, useability, and functionality.
  • Drive alignment across the GIE and Experience portfolio and teams, as well as with critical partners across Google.
  • Evolve the strategic and technical direction for the team, ensuring that the team’s objectives are aligned with those of Core and Experience.
  • Develop and grow leadership talent through effective mentoring, coaching and development, succession planning and retention strategies.
