Senior Software Engineer, Android System UI, Personalization

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in software development, with a focus on Android UI or graphics, using Java or Kotlin and the Android framework for app development.
  • 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
  • Experience with front-end development, design implementation, and system design principles.
  • Experience in shipping, user-facing features in an environment.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • 1 year of experience in a technical leadership role, leading technical initiatives across cross-functional teams.
  • Experience in graphics programming (e.g., OpenGL ES, Vulkan, custom shaders) and performance.
  • Experience developing accessible technologies.
  • Understanding of motion design principles and implementing fidelity animations.

In this role, you will drive technical vision and execute critical Android customization, from UI features to advanced graphics engines.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $166,000-$244,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and implementation of Android UI experiences for personalization and customization features.
  • Drive the development of graphics frameworks, custom shaders, and intricate animations that bring expressive motion to life across the OS.
  • Collaborate with Product and UX teams to define and deliver the future of Android's personalization capabilities.
  • Architect and build platforms and APIs to support both Pixel and OEM-specific personalization features.
  • Mentor engineers contribute to the overall technical excellence and innovation of the team.
