Senior Software Engineer, Pixel Watch, System Software

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., C).
  • 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
  • 3 years of experience working with embedded operating systems.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • 5 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
  • Experience working with Android domain, embedded processors, Linux kernel, drivers, and BSP.
  • Experience in performance analysis and optimization in the domains of embedded systems.
  • Knowledge of one or more of the following: microcontrollers, SoC, device drivers, hardware bringup, power management, ARM processors, file systems, bootloaders, firmware, or hardware/software integration.

We build Google's Pixel Watch that integrates the best of Google and Fitbit experiences. We are looking for motivated engineers to join us in our mission.

As a Software Engineer, you will work directly on the next generation of Pixel Watch devices, and will help build the software that goes into all our devices. You will work across functions and product area boundaries, as well as with chip vendors to support the Board Support Package (BSP)/Kernel/Storage and the related product software stack. In addition to supporting integration across all product, the team works closely with Product, UX, User Experience Researcher (UXR), and other engineering teams to create experiences for our users.

The Platforms and Devices team encompasses Google's various computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications), as well as our first party devices and services that combine the best of Google AI, software, and hardware. Teams across this area research, design, and develop new technologies to make our user's interaction with computing faster and more seamless, building innovative experiences for our users around the world.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $166,000-$244,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and support software for the Pixel watch. Contributing to BSP/kernel/Android, new board bringup and working with SoC manufacturers on debugging software issues.
  • Work in areas of security architectures like secure boot, and secure element.
  • Work occasionally with hardware vendors to manage vulnerabilities to ensure high standards of security.
  • Focus on power, performance and battery life.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to drive new changes to WearOS/Android.
