Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience programming in Java.
  • 2 years of experience in android development.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Experience in power or thermal software development.
  • Experience in cellular modem software development.
  • Experience in mobile device software development.
  • Advanced proficiency in Java and C/C++ and proficient in Rust is a strong plus.
  • Understanding of computer architecture, operating systems, and networking (cellular networking experience).

Our Pixel Mobile Wireless team is building the innovative mobile wireless software for the Pixel product family. The mission is to build a stable, reliable, low-latency, low power and high throughput mobile wireless communication and connectivity system with Google innovative technologies on Google products.

As a modem power/thermal software engineer on the Pixel Mobile Wireless (PMW) team, you will be part of a mission-critical team optimizing power and thermals for the modem. You will design, implement, optimize, validate, and land various power/thermal features for next-generation Pixel devices. Your focus will be on modem power and thermal optimization, utilizing various inputs from the system, power rails, and thermal sensors to make optimal decisions.

The team works on shaping the future of Pixel devices and services through some of the most advanced designs, techniques, products, and experiences in consumer electronics. This includes bringing together the best of Google’s artificial intelligence, software, and hardware to build global smartphones and create transformative experiences for users across the world.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $147,000-$211,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Develop Android services to manage modem power and thermals for all cellular modes, including NTN (IoT-NTN and NR-NTN) and Direct-to-Cell (LTE/NR DTC).
  • Develop power and thermal management algorithms to optimize power consumption and thermals for DoU (Day of Use) cases, as well as for predefined critical user scenarios.
  • Identify key power/thermal scenarios and recreate them in a lab environment for further research and the development of optimized solutions. Work with test teams to define validation strategies and root-cause issues found during lab testing.
  • Debug, analyze, and fix modem power/thermal issues originating from the factory, certifications (GCF/PTCRB/IOT), the field, and end users.
  • Work closely with vendors and solution providers on modem power/thermal software design and optimization.
