Senior Business Data Scientist, YouTube Partner Program

Minimum qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a quantitative discipline such as Statistics, Engineering, Sciences, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4 years of experience using analytics to solve product or business problems, coding (e.g., Python, R, SQL), querying databases or statistical analysis.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 6 years of experience using analytics to solve product or business problems, coding (e.g., Python, R, SQL), querying databases or statistical analysis.
  • Experience in trust & safety, abuse detection, policy, or operations analytics.
  • Experience in designing, building, and maintaining automated data pipelines and ETL processes (e.g., using Plx Workflows, Flume).
  • Deep understanding and application of statistical principles, experimental design (A/B testing), and causal inference techniques.
  • Expert-level SQL skills, including complex joins, query optimization, and working with large datasets.
  • Advanced proficiency in Python or R for statistical modeling, machine learning, data manipulation, and automation.

The YouTube Partner Program (YPP) Analytics team operates in a high-stakes environment, providing comprehensive analytics for verticals that rely on complex tooling. We manage a rigorous cadence of high-visibility executive reporting, where frequent and significant policy changes directly impact north-star metrics and other core operational metrics. As the demand for sophisticated insights continues to accelerate, the YPP Analytics team remains critical in navigating this increasing complexity and driving strategic decision-making across the platform.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $163,000-$239,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Own, maintain, and evolve metrics and risk profiling frameworks to ensure safe feature launches for YPP, proactively identifying gaps and designing improvements.
  • Design, build, and own models to assess operational capacity on new product launches, guiding resource allocation strategies based on model insights and ensuring model robustness.
  • Define and lead the estimation of precision/recall, design and interpret A/B tests, and conduct in-depth user impact analyses for YPP policies, generating strategic insights to influence launch processes and post-launch monitoring. Design, build, and maintain robust, automated data pipelines and investigation frameworks to monitor launch safety, detect emerging abuse, and measure ops performance.
  • Collaborate with and influence product partners on launching broader metrics infrastructure for new features and shaping the future roadmap. 
  • Develop and implement low-latency reporting and innovative sampling strategies for high-risk feature launches.
